Why can I not conquer you?

Weary, angry, and in pain, Calea crossed the border into her own territory. Luckily, she could scent the heavy pine musk that was Loki nearby. "Loki!" she called, letting a bit of irritated vile into her voice. A minute and the sound of padding footfalls later, her packmate came in to view. His eyes widened, and he opened his maw to ask, but she quieted him with a look. Instead, he hurried forward and pressed against her side, giving her support that in her mind she didn't need. After what seemed like a long time, she finally collapsed in her den overlooking the lake. Letting out a barley feasible groan, she twisted onto her side and shut her eyes for a moment. "Loki. Nemesis is lost to us. We fought. She claimed the south for her pack, Crimson Hollow." She paused for a brief moment. "Bitch"
Loki stood awkwardly by the door, though his eyes were narrowed while he processed the information. "Nemesis...I would have never expected it. Sure, she was withdrawn, but this..." He trailed off, in thought. The silence grew, until they were both just contemplating this sudden betrayal.
"Loki.Where's Akelia?"
He looked surprised for a moment, then concerned. "I thought...she was with you. Both your scents left together." With a snarl, she struggled to her feet. "She never listens. Never. Always doing her own thing, never paying attention to what I say! Now she's down there, alone, with that unstable bitch who is probably going to turn her into crow food as soon as she sees her. I've got to-" Loki's nostril flared as the same scent filled the den. She was back. And she would have shit to pay.
